Board of Directors

Our Board of Directors is a volunteer-based Governance Board comprised of professionals from varying industries including tech, government, corporate, post-secondary, and local entrepreneurs.

The role of the Board is to: 

  • Develop the organization’s mission, mandate, vision and strategic direction, and goals
  • Complete yearly review of the strategic direction and goals
  • Establish and monitor governing policies and practices
  • Establish and monitor annual work plans and budgets providing a strong financial oversight
  • Provide effective governance to ensure organizational sustainability and resilience
  • Promote and support the Christmas Bureau mission, mandate and purpose

Who Should Apply? Candidates who can demonstrate their interest in:

  • Attend Board/Committee meetings, orientation, planning, and evaluation sessions
  • Actively promote and support the Christmas Bureau’s events and activities
  • Add ‘value’ to the Board’s deliberations and decisions
  • Diverse knowledge and cultural understanding of marginalized communities
  • Time for all Board duties and related activities (3-4 hours per month)

Communications Committee Member

The Communications Committee is a committee that provides strategic advice and counsel, leverage industry experience, and networks to support the communications and marketing strategies of the Christmas Bureau. Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, the committee members:  

  • Support the development of the marketing and communication framework of the Christmas Bureau Strategic Plan
  • Support the development of a marketing and communication yearly plan
  • Vetting key messages for use across channels
  • Provide recommendations, analysis of market and donor research, creative direction, and communication strategies for industry positioning

Who Should Apply? Candidates who can demonstrate their interest in:

  • Supporting the Christmas Bureau’s mission, values, and guiding principles
  • Communications and marketing experience
  • Diverse knowledge and cultural understanding of marginalized communities
  • Time for all committee duties and related activities (3-4 hours per month), including 8 hours of volunteer work within a calendar year

Governance Committee Member

The Governance Committee is a standing committee reporting to the Board. Reporting via the Governance Committee Chair, the Committee assists the Board to that the board fulfills its legal, ethical, and functional responsibilities by:

  • Overseeing compliance with governance principles, culture and ethical values, and legal issues
  • Developing and advising the Board on strategic issues and priorities
  • Overseeing the risk register and recommending risk mitigation strategies
  • Regularly reviewing the performance of the board as a whole and evaluating the contribution of individual members
  • Regularly reviewing the performance of Board standing, ad-hoc, and operational committees
  • Facilitating the development and regular review of the Christmas Bureau Bylaw, governance policies, and procedures

Who Should Apply? Candidates who can demonstrate their interest in:

  • Supporting the Christmas Bureau’s mission, values, and guiding principles
  • Committing time for Governance Committee duties and related activities
  • Bringing governance, strategic planning, and risk assessment/mitigation knowledge and expertise to the Committee table
  • Diverse knowledge and cultural understanding of marginalized communities
  • Time for all committee duties and related activities (3-4 hours per month), including 8 hours of volunteer work within a calendar year

Finance Committee Member

The Finance Committee is a standing committee reporting to the Board. Reporting via the Treasurer / Finance Committee Chair, the Committee assists the Board to manage the financial operations and oversee compliance requirements by:

  • Overseeing the development of the annual budget and three-year forecasts
  • Reviewing monthly financial statements and accounting practices
  • Overseeing the preparation for the annual audit
  • Developing an investment strategy
  • Review, monitor, and develop all financial policies and procedures ensuring compliance with standard accounting practices and compliance requirements

Who Should Apply? Candidates who can demonstrate their interest in:

  • Supporting the Christmas Bureau’s mission, values, and guiding principles
  • Finance and accounting experience
  • Diverse knowledge and cultural understanding of marginalized communities
  • Time for all committee duties and related activities (3-4 hours per month), including 8 hours of volunteer work within a calendar year
