I know a family that really needs help this Christmas. Can I apply on their behalf?

No, unfortunately you cannot apply on their behalf. Our screening process involves obtaining personal information about the family and their situation, which we can only obtain from the official applicant. However, if you do know someone that needs assistance, feel free to direct them to our website to complete and submit an application.  You can also provide them with our contact information so that they can call us directly.

I’ve never needed help like this before. What do I need to do to apply?

First of all, you’re not alone. Close to 65,000 Edmontonians will be in similar situations this Christmas.

I live outside of Edmonton (i.e. Sherwood Park, Beaumont, and St. Albert). Can I receive assistance from the Christmas Bureau of Edmonton?

Unfortunately, no. The Christmas Bureau of Edmonton services are provided within the limits of corporate Edmonton.  If you require assistance, please contact the agency in your community.

We will shortly be posting a list of services outside of the Edmonton corporate limits.

I’m a vegetarian. Will I only be able to receive a turkey for my festive meal?

Not at all. If you’re a vegetarian, or have another dietary restriction, please indicate that you would rather receive a grocery gift card rather than a hamper. This way, you can purchase food that better suits your diet.

I’m not Christian. Am I allowed to apply for assistance?

Absolutely. The Christmas Bureau of Edmonton is culturally inclusive, meaning that we serve people of all cultural and religious backgrounds.

I applied for assistance last year, but my address has changed since then. What should I do?

Applications are not kept from year to year. You are required to submit a new application for assistance every year you need help.

I have received an application in the mail before. Will I be receiving an application in the mail this year?

When is the application deadline?

To accommodate the delivery of services before Christmas Eve, the application deadline is December 11, 2018.

I missed the application deadline. Now what should I do?

You also need to bring proof of Edmonton residency, income and proof of custody for any minors.

I’m expecting the delivery of a food hamper. When will I receive my hamper?

Hampers are delivered in two ways – by Christmas Bureau volunteers and through Private Sponsors

  • PRIVATE SPONSOR:
    • If you have been scheduled to receive your hamper from a Private Sponsor, they will contact you directly to arrange to deliver the hamper.
    • The Private Sponsor will contact you before December 14 to make arrangements.
  • CHRISTMAS BUREAU VOLUNTEER
    • If you have been scheduled to receive your hamper from a Christmas Bureau Volunteer, these hampers will be delivered on Saturday, December 15 between the hours of 8:30 and 2 pm.
    • You must be home during that time to receive your hamper.
    • Hampers will NOT be left outside your door or with a minor.

I’m expecting the delivery of toys for my children. When will they be delivered?

  • Toys will be delivered by 630 CHED Santas Anonymous on Saturday, December 15 and Sunday, December 16 between the hours of 9 am and 6 pm.
  • You must be home during that time to receive your toys.
  • Toys will NOT be left outside your door or with a minor.

My hamper and/or toys were supposed to be delivered today but I didn’t receive anything. What should I do?

Please call our office directly at 780.414.7695 starting Monday, December 17, 2018.

I was supposed to receive my gift card in the mail but it hasn’t arrived yet. What should I do?

Please call our office directly at 780.414.7695.

I’m trying to call to apply over the phone, but the lines are busy. What should I do?

Unfortunately, that means that our phone lines are full of other people calling to apply. If you have trouble getting through, please keep calling. However, keep in mind that the earlier you apply, the better chance you have of reaching our Intake team in a timely manner. The closer we get to Christmas, the busier our phone lines get.
