Our History
Founded in 1940, the Christmas Bureau is one of Edmonton’s longest serving non-profit organizations. Each year all of Edmonton comes together to ensure that the least fortunate in our community receive a festive food hamper. Through individual and corporate donations, we are able to provide for more than 70,000 Edmontonians in need. This year we need to raise $1.8 million.
The tradition of sharing continues. Non-denominational and accessible to all, the Christmas Bureau works closely with a number of other organizations to ensure that the money we raise is used effectively without duplication of service. While the process of determining a person’s eligibility is a thorough one, it is marked by a spirit of compassion and generosity, respecting his or her dignity, integrity, confidentiality and rights. The Bureau is a registered non-profit society governed by a board of directors and administered by a small staff employed for a portion of the year.
A Message from the Chair - Dick Frenz
As an umbrella organization we accept client referrals from over 80 agencies to ensure no family, senior or individual is overlooked or duplicated.
The range of people who have benefited from our efforts is endless. A senior couple whose daughter went into rehab had been unexpectedly left with three grandchildren to raise. Their resources were spread extremely thin and they came to the Christmas Bureau for help to make Christmas special for all of them.
A single mom with two children was going to university in order to better her family’s situation. As times were difficult in those years, we helped them have a Christmas with hope and dignity. She is now a business person in the Edmonton community and has organized a fundraiser to give back to families that are currently in the situation she once was.
The Christmas Bureau of Edmonton and our clients sincerely appreciate your ongoing support. The earlier donations are made, the better we are able to reach out to reach out to as many community members as possible. We recognize you are busy and as such, we have made it as convenient as possible to make a donation online at christmasbureau.ca
By working together we can ensure all Edmontonians can embrace the warmth of the Christmas spirit by celebrating this time with a festive celebration.

but don’t see it in our own back yard.
Your donation will make someone’s Christmas brighter
right here in our own community."
