Volunteer & Community Relations Coordinator
Position Summary
The Volunteer & Community Relations Coordinator is responsible for leading the Christmas Bureau of Edmonton’s volunteer program and strengthening community relationships that support the organization’s mission and fundraising efforts.
This role oversees the full lifecycle of volunteer engagement – from recruitment and onboarding to communication, coordination, and recognition – while ensuring volunteers have a meaningful, well-organized, and positive experience.
In addition, this role supports the development of community partnerships that create opportunities for volunteer engagement and contribute to broader fundraising and awareness efforts. The Coordinator works closely with the Fund Development & Events Coordinator to ensure alignment between volunteer engagement and fundraising activities.
This position is ideal for someone who is highly organized, people-focused, and energized by building strong relationships within the community.
Key Responsibilities
Volunteer Program Leadership
· Lead the planning, coordination, and execution of the CBE volunteer program, supporting a large and engaged volunteer base.
· Serve as the primary point of contact for volunteers, ensuring consistent communication, support, and engagement.
· Develop and deliver volunteer onboarding, orientation, and training to ensure volunteers are well-prepared and supported.
· Create a positive, inclusive, and well-organized volunteer experience aligned with CBE’s values.
· Maintain accurate volunteer records and documentation.
Volunteer Recruitment & Retention
· Develop and implement volunteer recruitment strategies to meet organizational needs, particularly during peak campaign periods.
· Identify opportunities to strengthen volunteer retention, engagement, and recognition.
· Regularly review and update volunteer roles, processes, and materials to ensure clarity and effectiveness.
· Anticipate volunteer capacity needs and build contingency plans to support peak operations.
Community Engagement & Partnerships
· Build and maintain relationships with community partners that support volunteer engagement and awareness of CBE.
· Identify and support opportunities where community engagement may also contribute to fundraising efforts.
· Act as a key liaison with community-based initiatives and partner organizations.
· Represent CBE in the community in a professional and engaging manner.
Collaboration & Campaign Support
· Work closely with the Fund Development & Events Coordinator to align volunteer support with fundraising events and campaign needs.
· Support planning and execution of key campaign activities, particularly during peak periods.
· Ensure volunteer resources are effectively deployed to support operational and event requirements.
General Support
· Contribute to a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
· Support additional organizational initiatives as required.
Qualifications & Experience
· Minimum 2 years’ experience in volunteer coordination, community engagement, or a related field.
· Experience working in a nonprofit or volunteer-driven environment is an asset.
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
· Strong organizational and coordination skills with high attention to detail.
· Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
· Experience with volunteer databases or CRM systems is an asset.
· Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
· Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.
· Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends during peak periods.

This position reports to the Executive Director and works closely with the Fund Development & Events Coordinator and broader team to support successful campaign and organizational outcomes.

Time Commitment
● 3-year term with the option to renew for two additional three year terms
● Bi-monthly meetings and an annual board retreat
● Participation in at least one board committee:

● Mandatory 8+ hours of volunteer work per year above your board committee commitments
