How did you learn about the Christmas Bureau of Edmonton?

We received a hamper when I was a child.

When did you first get involved with the Christmas Bureau?

I first became involved in 2018.

Why do you choose to support the Christmas Bureau?

I choose to support the Christmas Bureau because when I was 5 years old, I was not in school yet, I was still staying home with my mom. We got a knock on the door and my mother took a box from a volunteer. After the door was shut, my mom was giggling and smiling. she was so happy when she got her hamper. She secretly shared some candy with me before she hid the box from my brothers and sisters. She died in 2000, she raised 15 children. We were poor but happy, I believe traditions are important for children, they need and count on the stability, I choose the Christmas Bureau in her honor.

Tell us about your personal festive traditions at Christmastime (e.g., food, gatherings with family and friends, decorating for the season)

My mother was always crazy about Christmas. All her regular décor was removed and Christmas décor was put in place. I had 14 brothers and sisters, by the time I was born, I also had nieces and nephews. We all gathered at Christmas, we were poor, but we feasted and enjoyed each other’s company. My sister’s and I still go to her grave and decorate it with Christmas décor.
