The following are our 2009 Group Volunteer Opportunities. If your group is interested in any of these activities, please fill out the form on this page and indicate which roles your group are interested in.

November 13 - Gingerbread House Construction

From 1:00 to 4:00 pm a group of 6 to 10 will build the gingerbread house foundations for our Media Challenge taking place the following Monday. Be prepared to mix icing and have a lot of fun.


December 18 - Turkey Transfer Crew

From 4:00 to 6:00 pm a group of 10 or more will transfer frozen turkeys from a freezer truck to our storage facility. This work is very physical and you must dress weather appropriate. There will be warm drinks and a snack waiting for you inside when the task is complete.


YOUTH GROUP OPPORTUNITY December 18 - Hamper Packing

Youth groups along with their adult supervisors are invited to register for this unique opportunity. In conjunction with Catholic Social Services over 1,800 hampers will be assembled and ready for drivers to deliver to homes the next morning. Groups of 10 to 15 can register for either the 6:30 to 8:30pm or the 8:15 to 10:30pm shift. We only require 2 groups per shift, so get your application in early!


December 19 - Hamper Delivery

Do you have an insured vehicle and are you available to deliver hampers to those in need? This is a rewarding and enjoyable opportunity for friends or families to spend a few hours together sharing the festive spirit. Please make considerations for winter weather (such as ice) and for the heavy lifting of hamper boxes which weigh 30-50 lbs each. We will require 120 drivers and are welcoming groups and individuals to register.


December 18 and December 21 - Walk In Days Event Set Up

December 18, from 9:00 to noon a group of 6 to 10 will lay tarps, cut boxes and set up tables. Then, from 1:00 to 4:00 pm a group of 6 to 8 will separate toys into age appropriate marked boxes. This role needs to be carried out with care and thoughtfulness so as to not damage any toys or packaging.

December 21, from 9:00 to noon a group of 6 to 8 will set up the tables and equipment necessary for client intake and hospitality. Wear your blue jeans and be ready to get busy!


December 22 & 23 - Walk-In Days

Walk-In Days is the last opportunity for people to apply and receive help for a food certificate and/or toys. Both clients and volunteers share in the spirit of caring and enhance each other's dignity Responsibilities vary dependant upon assigned activity. Activities will be assigned upon arrival for your shift. We require 40 volunteers for each shift and are looking for groups of 2 to 20 as well as individuals.

Tasks include:

data entry
greeting clients and volunteers
traffic and parking control (Please Note: these shifts start 1 hour earlier than noted below!)
interpreters
assisting clients with application forms
stuffing envelopes with food certificates
number callers
handing out snacks and beverages
matching toys with request forms

Monday, December 22  9:30am-1:00pm OR 12:30pm-4:30pm OR 4:00pm-8:00pm
Tuesday, December 23  9:30am-1:00pm OR 12:30pm-4:00pm
(Tuesday afternoon shift includes take down of venue)
